Jim has been with Take A Hike since April 2012. He hails from New York but has found his home in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Jim was recently featured in the Black Mountain News for his home-brewing skills. He’s also a newly wed! If you ever have any technical questions about gear, Jim is your man.
He is our gear guru and would love to talk shop any day. When he isn’t out on the trails you can often find him relaxing in a hammock with a book or enjoying a cold pint of beer from one of the many breweries in the area.
Willow has been a part of our team since February 2013. She’s the author of one of our best-selling books, Summoning the Mountains, which tells the story of her 2006 thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail.
Living in Black Mountain since 1986, Willow attended Warren Wilson College, University of Oklahoma and Appalachian State University. Her degree in Interdisciplinary Studies has served her well in the eclectic skills acquired throughout her travels.
Willow has hiked thousands of miles backpacking, lived in a tipi, skidded timber with draft horses, been a baker in inner city Philadelphia, spent 15 years in the corporate world, flown a private plane, and most recently spent 18 months team-driving an 18-wheeler. She is a long-time yoga practitioner and teacher. Of all her adventures, long distance hiking is her favorite topic. Stay updated with her latest hike of the Benton MacKaye Trail coming up April 2015 on our FaceBook page and come talk trail!
